Little Asian Houses

Hey folks, Hope you are enjoying this beautiful Tuesday morning. It is so great to finally be back in my atelier creating! Not to mention how great it was to say GOODBYE to 2013!

Today I want to bring you a closer look at the little Asian houses I created for this months "Chinese New Year" challenge over at www.alteredpages-artsociates.blogspot.com If you haven't checked out the challenge yet please click on the link and check it out after you leave here!!

When I received my collage sheet Mystic Asian as a design team member for Altered Pages, I fell in love with it! AP's collage sheets are just so vivid and beautiful and these lovely images just said ooh la la to  me!! I really wanted to  showcase these beautiful Asian women uniquely and I was pretty sure I wanted to use canvas but was still not really sure of what I wanted to do exactly. Then while I was creating the idea of little Asian houses struck me! That's when most of my ideas hit me. You know, right in the middle of creating or at night while I am trying to sleep!! LOL

So I grabbed a couple of 4x4 canvases, some cereal boxes,(yes, cereal boxes, Anyone who knows me knows I must recycle something in my art!!) Dylusions Inks and several other little supplies and went to work. I first gesso my canvases and let them dry. I then took pieces of the Mystic Asian collage sheets and adhered them down in random places with my gel medium. After drying I then adhered the images of the Geisha's down. Next, I added some texture by applying my homemade molding paste over some stencils and then let it dry.

While all was drying I created the roofs out of the cardboard cereal boxes and repeating the same process I used for the canvases.

Once everything was good and dry, I added some color using my golden acrylic paints and then using my black inktense pencil and a little charcoal pencil and my blending stump, I added some definition to the areas you see. I then used my inka gold rub and rubbed down all the molding paste to make it pop.

Next I topped it off with some buttons ( Chinese coins would be awesome!!) and some painted wooden balls for feet on my houses. I finished everything off with a little varnish spray and there you have it!! I hope you enjoy what you see  and if you would like more ideas hop over to the Alteredpages blog and check out all the other great designs!!

I hope you will keep dropping by here  as I can't wait for you to see and read all about my trip to Kentucky and my very first mixed media art class!!
